Description

The Iron Gate Hotel lies in the heart of Prague on a picturesque, cobbled side street just steps from the famous Astronomical Clock on Old Town Square. The location is ideal for enjoying the wonders of this ancient city, in spacious, elegant and historical surroundings. The beautiful and luxurious hotel is a 14th century marvel with its own private courtyard. The name "Iron Gate" is documented as far back as 1519. The Gothic complex underwent extensive reconstruction in the 16th century. The Baroque period and Classicism contributed gradually to its present look with the addition of loggias and balconies.

Wall fresco paintings from the 14th century, ceiling paintings with figured compositions, wooden ceilings that have been covered for almost three hundred years, these and many other historically significant architectonic gems were discovered upon recent full renovation of the premises. An exceptional and rare high Gothic roof truss from around 1380, and a former northern gable wall with a narrow window on the central axis were discovered as well. The most prominent feature of the complex, however, is a tower which is significantly higher than the surrounding houses.
