The Hotel Meteor Plaza lies right up the street from the beautiful Art Nouveau Municipal House building in downtown, historic Prague 1. The first written reference to the Meteor Plaza is from 1307. Originally, the house was named the White Lion, and was a retreat for travelers arriving in Prague after dark. In those times the city gate, today known as The Powder Gate, would close at dusk in order to protect the city. Since the White Lion was situated just outside the gate, it was a sought after place to spend the night.

In the 17th century, son of Empress Maria Teresa, Emperor Josef II, spent a night at the White Lion. In his honor, this charming house's name was changed to the City of Vienna. Today The White Lion goes by the name of The Best Western Meteor Plaza. It is ideally situated directly in the center of Prague, next to landmarks like The Palace Hibernia, the famous Powder Gate and Prague's fabulous art nouveau pearl: the Municipal House. You can reach Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square, the legendary King's Road and many other places of interest on foot within a few minutes.
